A Life Shaped by Picture Books

I studied writing and illustration, then spent nearly twenty years teaching young children. In the classroom and at home with my son, picture books were never far from reach. I used them to invite questions, make connections, inspire play, and help children find words for things that can be difficult to say.

All those years of reading with children shaped the stories I create today. Children notice everything. They find humor in unexpected places, ask the questions adults overlook, and understand far more than we sometimes give them credit for.

That perspective lives in my work—in curious children, expressive animals, close family ties, and characters finding a way through life’s big moments. My stories are also shaped by the people I love and the small treasures I bring home from the woods, beaches, and trails I explore.
