HELLO!

I’m Helen, an illustrator, writer, and teacher in Northern Virginia. I grew up in New York City and spent most of my childhood summers overseas with my Greek ( γειά σας) and Welsh (helô) families. Being surrounded by ruins and castles, immersed in Greek mythology and English lore, fueled my imagination and gave me creative purpose from an early age.

I hold degrees in English Literature and Fine Arts from SUNY Albany; Advertising and Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology; and a Master of Arts in Teaching from New York University. Over my 20+ year career as an elementary school teacher, I taught students of all grades, from ages 4 through 14. I’ve been a K-6 classroom teacher, an ESL teacher, and an Art teacher. My favorite things to teach were literacy and creativity.

I also create books, games, and literacy resources for preschoolers and their caregivers. Learn more about LitSteps products and ways to support early literacy at LitSteps.com.
